I’m the office administrator for a large company. Part of my job is keeping the coffee and snacks stocked for the employees. Almost every day, we get food delivered using a popular app. Sometimes, I offer a cup of coffee or a snack for the driver since they have to work around food they can’t eat. However, one particular delivery driver will help himself, stuffing his pockets and walking out before anyone can answer. I’ve brought it up to the office manager before and he simply shrugs it off; it’s not like we personally pay for the snacks, and we offer them to people anyway, so let him have some.

One day, I stop at a coffee chain before work to treat myself to a seasonal drink. While I am making copies outside my office, I see [Delivery Driver] go in, look around, and then take a sip of my coffee before carrying it back out toward the door.

I’ve had enough. I follow him to the door, grab the coffee from his hand, and throw it in the trash. I then go back to him and hold the door open.

Delivery Driver: “Why did you throw out my coffee?”

Me: “Get out, [Delivery Driver].”

Delivery Driver: “What?”

Me: “That was my coffee.”

Delivery Driver: *Laughing uncomfortably* “It’s just coffee.”

Me: “I’m tired of your inconsiderate behavior. Our snacks and drinks are not here for you; they are for [Company] employees. You want something, you ask first and wait for a response. If you don’t get a yes, you don’t touch it.”

Delivery Driver: “You’re really being a b**** over a cup of coffee? Wow, [My Name], if you’re that poor, I’ll give you money for it.”

Me: *Yelling* “Get out!”

My office manager came out to see why I was yelling. I told him what had happened and [Delivery Driver] denied everything, accusing me of being racist and trying to find a reason to get out of tipping him. The office manager sided with me and sternly told [Delivery Driver] to leave.

I left a negative review on the delivery app and contacted customer service. [Delivery Driver] hasn’t been around for a few weeks, so I don’t know what happened. I don’t wish for bad things to happen to most people, but I do hope he got fired.

I’m seventeen, and it’s my fourth day working at my first job as a delivery driver at a pizza place. I get sent on an order at around 6:30 pm. It’s at the childcare center at our local community college, about fifteen minutes away, which is a first for me to deliver to.

I get there around 6:45, and I notice that both front entrances are closed. I get to the back, and it’s also closed with no way to get in. I call the customer so I can ask how she’d like me to get to her; there’s fencing all around the college so I can’t walk around the gates blocking the road. She doesn’t answer, so I call my boss.

Boss: “Did you try the front entrances?”

Me: “Yes, but they’re blocked off, too.”

Boss: “Did you try calling the customer?”

Me: “Yes, no answer.”

Boss: “I’ll try calling her and then I’ll call you back.”

I drive around to the front of the school, and I find a parking lot across the street, which I park in. I look around and I see a thin path for me to walk through. My boss calls me back.

Boss: “I tried the customer four times but got no answer.”

Me: “I found a path to get in.”

Boss: “Okay. Shoot me a text when you’ve got the food delivered.”

By now, it’s around 7:00. I start walking over to the childcare center, and I realize all the lights are off. I think that’s odd but continue working my way over there. I get there, ring the doorbell, and knock on the door, but no one answers. My boss told me earlier they may be in between two other buildings on campus. I go over and check those out. No one. In these two buildings, no one is there, though the lights are on. I try knocking on multiple doors and ringing the doorbells, and I even call the woman again. No one answers the phone or the doorbells.

At about 7:20, after walking around half the campus, I call my boss again.

Boss: “Just bring the food back. We’ll leave a message for her saying she has to come and pick the food up since you couldn’t find her.”

I got back to the store around 7:40. Right after I got back, the woman finally called the store back, and we found out she’d put the address in wrong. She forgot to put the address in the app she ordered through, so it automatically sent the address as her last order’s location. My boss sent me back out, saying she’d probably tip well, since I’d been out for more than an hour trying to deliver to her.

I drove about five minutes away to her house and gave her her food. No tip.

I got back to the shop at about 8:00, and my boss asked how much I was tipped, and I said none. He was just in awe, as were the cashiers. I could’ve made at least three deliveries in that time and at least ten dollars in tips.

I’m a third-party delivery driver. We have this woman who orders hundreds of dollars’ worth of food from different restaurants; sushi, pizza, Mexican, Chinese, etc. She never tips. Ever.

I frequently get her orders. Sometimes she pays cash; our platform allows this.

Me: “Your total is $250.20.”

Customer: “I’d like to round down.” *Hands me $250.00.*

You get the picture. Today, though, I have had enough and I tell the business owner of the platform:

Me: “If she pulls that stunt again, I will say something to her.”

She orders $150 worth of pizza. No tip. Requests a no-contact delivery. My time has come. When I drop off her food, I write a note:

Note: “Your life must be pretty sad if you get your laughs out of ordering hundreds of dollars’ worth of food for no tip. We all pass on your orders constantly for it. I only brought it to you out of pity. PS: my boss knows about this note 😊.”

The effect was swift. I told the owner of what I’d done, and he asked for a timestamp of the photo (I’d taken a photo of the note). He compared it to the time and day I’d taken that order. He then proceeded to look at her order history. Every order after the one I left her the note ripping her apart had a 25% tip ever since.

I work as a delivery driver for a large pizza company. My coworker originally ran this order, and no one answered the door. He called and they didn’t answer, so he came back to the store. Two hours later, the customer calls in and demands we remake the order, because it is cold by this point, and run it back out. I’m tasked with running it.

Client: “Aren’t we meant to get this for free?”

Me: “I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re referring to.”

Client: “Thirty minutes or less?”

Me: “Uh, no, ma’am. I don’t believe we’ve had that policy since I was a preteen, if ever. Actually, I’m pretty sure that was [Competitor].”

Client: “Doesn’t matter if you have it or not; it took you two hours to get it to us! I want a refund, or I’m going to call corporate and have your job!”

Me: “That’s not going to happen so for reference I am [My Full Name], my manager on shift is [Manager’s], our store number is [number], and I don’t know corporate’s number but you’re welcome to Google it. Have a good day!”

I don’t believe corporate was ever called because, since then, both my manager and I have gotten promotions.

I was listening to Boston as I pulled up to a house to make a pizza delivery. The customer was an old dude who told me he liked my taste in music. He handed me $20 for a tip.

Me: “Man, are you sure? You just made my night!”

Customer: “Here, let me really make it.

And he gave me another $20!

So, advice for other drivers: listen to mainstream classic rock and old people will probably tip better and like you better. I had another guy comment about me playing RUSH and I got like $8 from him.
