You Live For Her Job

(It’s my second time giving blood. The phlebotomist approaches with a needle and blood bag.)

Phlebotomist: “Well, this should be interesting. This is actually the first time I’ve ever inserted an IV into a living person!”

(It turned out she had worked in a morgue for 10 years, where she inserted IVs into cadavers, and this was her first day at the blood bank.)

Drawing Blood For The Rokeg Blood Pie

(I’m a Junior in high school and waiting to have my blood taken.)

Nurse: *as she’s sanitizing my arm, she looks up and sees the head doctor* “Aw, man… I hate it when he’s here. He always looks over your shoulder when you’re trying to work!”

Me: *twisting around to look in his direction*

Nurse: “He’s the bald man that looks like a Klingon.” *shocked look* “Did I say that out loud?”

Me: *dying of laughter* “Yes… Yes, you did!”

(My friend and I are walking into a store with a blood drive van parked up front.)

Recruiter: “Hi! Would you like to donate blood? It could save a life!”

Friend: “Sorry. I don’t believe in helping others.”

Recruiting For New Blood

| Winnipeg, MB, Canada | Right | February 27, 2010

Donor: “I’ve never seen you here before.”

Me: “Well, yes, I am relatively new, but I’ve been involved with [blood bank] for a long time.”

Donor: “So, are you like a volunteer or something?”

Me: “No, I am an employee. I had to undergo several weeks of training for this.”

Donor: “But you look too young to be an employee!”

Me: “I assure you, I am a full employee.”

Donor: “But you’re only like 14!”

Me: “Actually sir, I’m 20, almost 21.”

Donor: “No way!”

Me: “Let me put it this way. Would you really want a 14 year old volunteer removing a 14 gauge needle from your arm and handling your blood?”

Donor: “Good point. Carry on.”
