Not Always Right: 15th Anniversary Month! – 2017 Retrospective

, | Right | October 18, 2022

Dear readers,

We’re back and ready to party hearty with another roundup celebrating fifteen years of Not Always Right! Today, we’re taking a look at 2017. This was the year of a total solar eclipse that crossed the USA from coast to coast, the first to do so in ninety-nine years. In Florida, eighty bystanders formed a human chain to rescue a family caught in the ocean’s current. In England, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement. NASA astronaut Peggy Wilson, the first woman to command the International Space Station, broke the record for most cumulative days spent in orbit.

Facebook reached two billion active monthly users in 2017, and Twitter doubled the character limit of its tweets. This Is Us was the year’s most popular TV show, Wonder Woman premiered on the big screen, and Dear Evan Hansen won the Tony Award for best musical. And five years later, we’re still trying to get Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You out of our heads.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch (Not Always Right), we pushed to a new high of over 9,600 reader-submitted stories published! We also introduced the Not Always Healthy category for tales of daffy doctors, nutty nurses, and the various peculiarities of the human body!

Let’s see what good stories we had cooking in 2017!

We’re looking back at 2016 today! US gymnast Simone Biles took the Olympic stage for the first time this year, and the Chicago Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years. Pokémon GO took over everyone’s lives, Hamilton took home eleven Tony Awards, and the giant panda was removed from the endangered species list.

2016 was the year that Leonardo DiCaprio finally won the Oscar for best actor, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her ninetieth birthday, and Lorelai and Rory Gilmore returned to the small screen after nine long years with Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. The big screen saw the release of an all-female Ghostbusters reboot, Deadpool, and Doctor Strange.

2016 was an exciting year here at NotAlwaysRight, too; we published over nine thousand stories from our readers! We also launched our Instagram page, which now boasts nearly fifty thousand followers!

Not Always Right: 15th Anniversary Month! – 2015 Retrospective

, | Right | October 14, 2022

Dear readers,

Welcome back to our 15th-anniversary celebration! Today, we’re diving into 2015. This is the year the United States Supreme Court ruled to legalize same-sex marriage in all fifty states. The Force Awakens smashed into theaters nearly thirty years after the original Star Wars film landed. Queen Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning British monarch in history in 2015, too.

In 2015, we were introduced to Windows 10 and Android Pay. Japan lifted its sixty-seven-year ban on dancing after midnight, and Left Shark blessed us with their adorably lackluster dancing skills during Katy Perry’s Super Bowl halftime show. And the most controversial debate tore apart friendships and divided households: THE DRESS. Was it white and gold or black and blue?! The world may never know the truth.

Meanwhile, we here at Not Always Right were busy, busy, busy, publishing nearly eight thousand reader-submitted stories! Our readers just couldn’t get enough tasty, tasty content, so we also introduced the Unfiltered category in 2015.

Let’s check out some of the most-loved (filtered) stories of 2015!

Dear readers,

As many of you know, Not Always Right started as a site about documenting the exploits of bad customers, from the hilarious to the horrendous! But as the site grew, so did the variety of stories we received, many of which were fantastic but didn’t fit into the dynamic of bad customer stories. Over the years, we’ve added more categories to the site, to slowly encapsulate all the possible combinations of human interactions. From witty comebacks in the home, to awkward first dates. From entitled behavior from bad neighbors, to those happy to break the law. Every type of witty and memorable story can now be safely covered in the ever-growing story feeds of Not Always Right.

In the last fifteen years, we’ve published thirty-thousand of your stories! Picking favorites was nigh-on impossible, but we’ve had a go at rounding up some of our more memorable stories, as well as some of your top-voted from all the categories! Here’s to thirty-thousand more!

Not Always Right: 15th Anniversary Month! – 2014 Retrospective

, | Right | October 12, 2022

Dear readers,

The month-long celebration of Not Always Right’s 15th Anniversary continues! Now, we’re looking into the year 2014. This was the year when Taylor Swift’s Blank Space got stuck in our heads. Olympic athletes in Sochi adopted stray puppies. Millions of people became addicted to the 2048 mobile game. [Fast Food Taco Restaurant] finally introduced a breakfast menu.

In 2014, Lupita Nyong’o won the Oscar for best actress in a supporting role and Laverne Cox became the first trans woman to be nominated for an Emmy. This was the year of the ice bucket challenge, a viral trend that managed to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for researching amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (aka ALS, aka Lou Gehrig’s disease). Nice work, humanity!

Meanwhile, here at Not Always Right, we spread a little joy, amusement, and solidarity with the help of over seven thousand stories! We also introduced the Not Always Friendly category to share glimpses of the best and worst humanity has to offer in day-to-day life.

Let’s take a look at the best stories to come out of 2014!
