Taco ‘Bout Stupid Questions
Some friends and I are visiting a friend, walking around the town square in a rural yet affluent town on a summery night in California. Our friend, the local, tells us:
Friend: “There’s this great ‘chef-driven’ taco stand on the square! It’s totally worth it!’
Excited to try some great tacos, we walk up to the stand, which is actually a service window in a wall, with lots of outdoor tables dotted around outside. There’s a customer at the window, talking to the worker.
Customer: “So, the specialty tacos… what are the macro numbers?”
Worker: “Macro… numbers?”
Customer: “The protein, carb, fat ratios?”
Worker: *Blank look.*
Customer: “I’ll need them for each specialty taco, please.”
Worker: “I… don’t have that information. The chef kinda makes them as he goes. I have a list of ingredients, though?”
Customer: *Deep sigh.* “Fine… How many grams of protein would you say are in this ground lamb taco? And if you had to guess, what’s the estimated carb count in this chorizo and potato taco?”
Our friend steps forward.
Friend: “Bruh… really?”
Customer: “What?”
Friend: “If you’re worried about macros, don’t go to a hole-in-the-wall taco place.”
Customer: “Any decent food business should have the nutritional information ready to go.”
Friend: “Then go find a decent one. I come here to get an indecent amount of cheese and toppings on my taco, and I’m not counting the f****** calories.”
Customer: *Ignoring my friend, and turning to the worker.* “So… the protein, carb, and fat ratios?”
Worker: “All I can tell ya, is that each taco has lots of all three.”
Customer: “…I can see this business isn’t taking itself seriously.”
The customer walks away muttering, freeing up our friend to order copious amounts of unhealthy food that was absolutely worth the calories!
