Will Have To See Him Through Rose-Coloured Glasses

(My husband is not very romantic. I have been talking about how he never buys me flowers anymore, trying to get him to do something for me. I finally flat out tell him I would like some flowers sometime. A few weeks later my mother gives me a bouquet of wild flowers as a congratulations for something at work. Once I get home I find my husband waiting in the doorway looking pleased with himself.)

Husband: *with goofy grin* “I have something for you!”

Me: “Oh, yeah? Look what my mom got me! Aren’t they pretty?”

Husband: *looks at them for a second then ignores them completely* “Hmm. Come on!”

(He pulls me into the house and leads me into the den where he has a single rose set in a small vase on my desk.)

Husband: “I got you flowers!”

(I look at the one rose, then at the full bouquet complete with ribbon and craft paper in my hands. I just smile at my husband.)

Me: “Yes. Yes, you did. Thank you, honey!”

(I kissed him and really did appreciate that he did get me a flower, but I have since stopped asking for flowers.)
