Straight To Voicemail And Straight To The Point
Although my workplace does not issue work phones, I have a coworker who specifically pays for a separate cell phone for his employment. Anyone who works with him gets his work phone number, and ONLY his work phone number; his personal phone number goes exclusively to people in his personal life.
I discovered his motivation for doing so on his own dime when I accidentally tapped on his contact (his first name happens to be the same as a friend of mine) while he was on vacation. Before I could realize my mistake, the call went straight to voicemail.
Coworker’s Voicemail: “Hi! You’ve reached the voicemail box of [Coworker’s Full Name]’s work phone. Which begs the question of why the h*** you’re calling me, considering I’m on vacation, and I very specifically told everyone I work with that was not going to be available for any work business. If you are a manager, please leave your name, and I will get back to you when my vacation is over, not a moment sooner. If you are a coworker, please leave the name of the manager who refused to listen to you when you told him that I am on vacation and not available, and I will get back to them on your behalf when my vacation is over. And if you are a scammer, kindly go f*** yourself and/or your boss with a rusty kitchen knife.” *Beep.*
I left a message apologizing (through my laughing fit) for the misdial and hung up. When he got back, [Coworker] confirmed that he’d had more than a few bosses in the past who refused to understand that “vacation” means “not working”.
