Standing To Pay, Not Standing Trial
My friends and I were eating late at night at Denny’s back in high school. There were around nine or ten of us. Our waitress was okay, but a little rude, I assume just from having to deal with drunks and rude teens, so I brushed it off.
After we were done, everyone went out to the cars while two of us went up to pay. While I’m waiting in line, our waitress runs up to the cop who was standing nearby, yelling.
Waitress: “Stop them! Those stupid kids didn’t pay!”
The cop looked at her for a second and then turned around and asked me:
Cop: “Are you paying?”
Me: “Yep, that’s why I’m standing here.”
The cop looked back at her, and she just stormed off angrily, shouting at me:
Waitress: “Next time, pay before any of you walk out!”
I don’t blame her for worrying, but it’s not like we were hiding, and calling us ‘stupid’ was uncalled for.
