Spotlight On Stupidity

| Working | September 13, 2013

(My manager has just gone out on a smoke break, only to return a minute later, with her eyes wide, flailing her arms in the air, looking between myself and a coworker.)

Manager: “Oh my God! You two need to look outside right now! There are these big, white looking orbs flying around in the sky! They’re lower than the clouds, I think, and they’re spinning and bouncing off of each other!”

(My coworker and I exchange a concerned look, before agreeing to go outside. I take one look up, before bursting into laughter, and walking back inside.)

Manager: “Did you see it?!”

Me: “Yeah, I saw it. Do you know what those are?”

Manager: “No! Do you think it’s aliens?”

Me: “I’m pretty positive they’re not. They’re just some of the spotlights from the fair across the street, hitting the clouds.”

Manager: “But, why does it look like they’re over THIS building?! Are you sure?”

Me: “I think it’s just how the clouds are. Plus, they’re right across the street, and I don’t think they point the lights straight up above them.”

Manager: “Ohhh! I get it! So, it’s like an optical illusion!”

Me: “No, I don’t think it’s—”

Manager: “Yeah! That makes sense! Optical illusions do that all the time!”

Me: *giving up* “Okay, it’s an optical illusion.”
