Sow What?

A customer and her teenage children are browsing the produce section. She sets her angry eyes on me.

Customer: “Ugh, why is this food so expensive?!”

Me: “Actually, the prices have stayed stable for those. We source them from local farmers, so—”

Customer: “Why do we even need farmers? Cut them out so we don’t need to pay for them!”

Not knowing how to answer, my eyes dart over to the two teens, who are looking at me with pity.

Teenager #1: “Don’t worry, she says things like that all the time.”

Me: “That does worry me, actually.”
