Client: “I just saw this thing where someone used AI to make a photo from scratch.”
Me: “Well, technically it’s not a photo, but yes some people are using AI to do that now.”
Client: “Well if I can make images using AI for free why do I need to pay you to make art for my site?”
Me: “You’re more than free to learn how to use AI to create AI-generated assets, but I wouldn’t call it art.”
Client: “Can you teach me how?”
Me: “Teach you how to do what?”
Client: “Teach me how to get AI to make art?”
Me: “You want me to teach you how to use AI to replace me?”
Client: “Well when you put it like that it makes me sound mean.”
Me: “I’m just putting it how it is.”
Client: “So will you teach me?”
Me: “You just set up a Discord and type the image prompts into it until it spits out something you like.”
Client: “What’s a discord?”
Me: “It’s like a private little server.”
Client: “A server… like in a restaurant?”
Me: “I’ll tell you what. Let me learn how to use AI to create assets, and you can just ask me. I’ll charge (5% more than my current rate) as an advanced technology upcharge.
Client: “Deal!”
And that’s how I got a client to pay me 5% more than when I was creating artistic assets from scratch, by using an AI tool instead, saving me dozens of hours for each job.
