Sooo Not Ready For The Internet, Part 14

, , , , , , | Right | June 13, 2024

An older woman is browsing the aisles looking very confused, so I check whether she’s finding everything okay.

Customer: “Where are all your hair products?!”

Me: “I… Uh, we don’t sell any hair products, ma’am. We’re a hardware store.”

Customer: “The Google told me this was a hair store!”

Yes, she said, “The Google.”

Me: “I’m sorry, ma’am, I don’t know what Google told you, but this is a hardware store.”

Customer: “But the Google told me! Are you telling me that the Google is lying?”

Me: “I’m not saying that, ma’am, but Google can be wrong sometimes. It’s totally reliant on what other people put on the Internet, and those people can be wrong.”

Customer: “Doesn’t the Internet have people checking everything that goes on to it? That’s very poor customer service if they don’t!”

Me: “Well… uh… the Internet isn’t really just one company. There’s so much on the Internet that it’s impossible to fact-check it all.”

Customer: “Well, it’s a disgrace that they don’t have people checking if things are correct on the Internet! Mark my words, when [Former President] gets back in office, that’s the first thing we’ll get him to do!”
