Some Tough Advice

, , | Hopeless | July 20, 2016

(I am coming back home from my high school and I am feeling a bit down so I lean my head on the window. 10 minutes later a man sits next to me and says “Good afternoon.” I respond back and lean my head again. A few minutes later this conversation happens:)

Man: “Are you feeling ill?”

Me: “No. I’m okay, thanks.”

(Five minute pause:)

Man: “Are you sad?”

Me: “No. I’m okay, thanks.” *I lied*

Man: “Well, you don’t look quite happy. Is there any way I could help?”

Me: “I’m just feeling a bit down. No worries.”

Man: “I’m sorry to hear that, but you know what? Life is hard, very hard, so hard that sometimes you even doubt if it’s worth living, but you know what I’ve always said to myself during tough times? Keep going because you never know what’s going to happen. You can become a famous author, an actress, a rock star, even the president! But if you keep putting yourself down you’re never going to know, sweetheart.”

(After this, the man said goodbye and gave me a piece of candy. To this man I just want to send my biggest wishes because thanks to you I have just graduated high school and I’ve been accepted to the best university in my city. And I also learned a huge lesson: always cheer people up because you never know how much they need it.)
