Some Retail Clerks Would Be Drooling To Have A Policy Like This

, , , | Right | May 2, 2025

We’re a toy store that primarily sells plushies, mostly huggable furry animals. Since kids love to run around and try everything, we want to encourage the parents to not put all these furry critters into their mouths.

To combat this, the owners put up a sign:

Sign: “If your child loves on a toy too much, you bought it. If you don’t want to buy it, you’re not buying anything else.”

A woman comes in with a bunch of kids. The youngest loved all over a plushie dog, to the point where it’s sloppy wet with drool. When the mother goes to check out, she sees the price tag.

Customer: “Hmm, no that’s too much.”

She tries to grab a cheaper one.

Me: “No, ma’am, it’s that exact one.”

Customer: “But I don’t want that one.”

Me: “Your son obviously does.”

Customer: “But it’s too much.”

Me: “You need to buy this, or you’re not buying anything.”

Customer: “You’d be willing to lose a sale over this?”

Me: “The owners set up that policy and they back us up every time.”

Customer: “I’ll be sure to tell all my friends that a toy store discriminates against mothers!”

Me: “Only mothers who don’t watch their kids.”
