Some People Just Want To Watch The World Burn, Part 36
We’ve got a regular customer who’s made a sport out of being a nuisance. He always shows up five minutes before closing with about twenty items, insists each one be rung up separately, each in its own bag, with two receipts for every single thing. He doesn’t even pretend it’s about organization, he just likes keeping us late for his own amusement.
One night, our manager has finally had enough. As soon as the guy walks in, she steps up.
Manager: “Evening. You can shop tonight, but it all goes on one receipt, in the minimum number of bags possible.”
Customer: “What? The customer is always right!”
Manager: “Maybe in fairy tales. In real life, the customer is only right as long as they’re not holding the store hostage for kicks. You can either behave or be banned.”
Customer: glaring “Fine. I’ll… behave.”
Instead of grabbing a few things, he strolls through the aisles at a glacial pace, piling his cart higher and higher with random items.
By the time he finally waddles up to checkout, closing time is long past. Then, without a word, he tips the entire cart over, sending cans, boxes, and produce rolling across the floor.
Customer: “F*** all of you!”
He storms out.
The next day, the manager posts a notice on the break room board:
Manager: “Effective immediately, [Customer’s Name] is banned from all stores. Also, whoever coined ‘the customer is always right’ is welcome to come clean up aisle five.”
We spent the next half-hour picking up his mess. At least now, we’ll never see him again.
