Sleeping Without The Enemy
(I am a college student living with my dad over the summer. He works irregular hours at his job, often in the middle of the night. He worked long hours the night before and, as such, is taking a nap in the afternoon. The house phone rings, and I pick up.)
Me: “Hello, [Last Name] residence.”
Caller: “Hey, [My Name], it’s [Caller]. Is your dad home?”
(The caller is a former family friend whose family lived with us when they were on hard times. She was extremely disrespectful to me and my parents, and my dad hates her.)
Me: “Um… he’s taking a nap right now.”
Dad: *calling out from bedroom* “Who is it?”
Me: “Hold on a second.” *to dad* “It’s [Caller].”
Dad: “…I’m asleep.”
