Should Have An ‘Early’ Warning System

(My mum is really bad at time planning, as in we will arrive so early to everything it is sometimes before the hosts. We are working the same event, and have to meet our team at the next town 40 miles away before going up in convoy.)

Mum: “Okay, we need to be there at 8 am, but I want to get there at 7:30, so we should probably leave at 6:30 to allow for the drive.”

Me: “It takes 40 minutes max to drive there.”

Mum: “But in case of traffic we need to allow longer. I think it’s best to leave at six.”

Me: “Why would there be traffic at 6 am on a Sunday?”

Mum: “You never know… Anyway, if we are leaving at six we will need some time to get ready and eat breakfast.”

Me: “Half an hour should do for that.”

Mum: “No, no. Give yourself 45 minutes.”

Me: “So I should wake up at 5:15?”

Mum: “Make it 5 am”

(This planning was all pointless when she woke me up at 4:30, rushed me out the door without breakfast to the car she’d already packed the night before and sped down the completely empty motorway. We arrived four hours early.  Everyone else turned up late and wouldn’t leave until the entire team was there.)
