Should Check The Check
(I’m a stagehand. I manage to find time to grab some food between sound check and the show. When I get to the restaurant, one of my coworkers who I’m not working with that night is there, so I sit with him. I’m a 26-year-old lesbian. He’s in his 60s and, while I like him very much, we only have a professional relationship! His food arrives shortly after I sit down.)
Waitress: “Oh, so you’re sharing?”
Me: “No… but I’d like to order.”
Waitress: “Oh, okay.”
(Later, she brings a single bill and puts it in front of him.)
Me: “Oh, no. She didn’t.”
Coworker: “What?”
Me: “She totally put my food on your bill.”
(He checks. She did. The most annoying part is, every single time my wife and I eat out together, we’re asked if we’re paying together or separately. But the one time I eat with a man…!)
