She’d Get To The Point If She Knew What It Was

I am a manager at a grocery store. Our location is also a gas station. At [Grocery Store], we have a rewards program in which you accumulate points while you shop and then redeem the points by lowering your fuel price by that many cents.

Today, I was at the counter when a customer approached our fuel register for prepay. Before I had even gotten logged onto the register, she specifically told me she did NOT want to use her points. (I thought that was strange, but some customers like to let the points build up before using them.)

Once I had the prepay ready, I double-checked.

Me: “You said you don’t want to use your points?”

Customer: “Correct.”

I ran the transaction and handed her the receipt, and she immediately yelled:

Customer: “OH, CRAP! I FORGOT TO USE MY POINTS!”

Me: “But you said you didn’t want to use them?”

She looked at me like I was stupid.

Customer: “I don’t want to use them. Is it too late to use my points?”

At that point, I had quite literally no idea what she wanted from me, so I just said, “Yes, the transaction has already gone through,” closed my register, and walked away.

A little while later I asked the checker, who had seen the whole thing, if I had missed something, but she said she was just as confused as me.
