She Has A Whiz Kid
I work in a department store that has four floors, with customer restrooms on the first and third floors. I’m tidying up the cookware section on the fourth floor when I notice a woman and a little boy loitering at the end of the display. At first, I think they’re just browsing, but then I spot it: the kid has his pants down and is PEEING on the floor right in front of a stack of boxed kitchen appliances!
Me: *Rushing over.* “Excuse me! He can’t do that in here!”
The boy just carries on, utterly unfazed. The mum looks at me with this vacant little giggle.
Mother: “Teehee, what can I do? Children are children.”
I stare at her, jaw tight, gesturing towards the mess spreading across the tiles.
Me: “There’s a restroom one floor down. You could have taken him there.”
She shrugs, still smirking, not even trying to stop her kid.
Mother: “I bet you don’t have children. And I hope you never will. You can’t say no.”
And with that, she tugs the kid’s pants back up, turns on her heel, and just walks off. No apology, no offer to clean, not even a glance back.
I’m left there with a puddle in the cookware aisle, thinking, not a single “sorry.” Not a flicker of regret. Just… giggles.
I tell my manager what happened, and – bless her – she’s the one who cleans up the spill. She also gets the customer banned (even puts out the picture of her from our security camera footage), which we didn’t think would do much good since we’d never seen her before…
Until the Black Friday sales come around and I spot her in the line. We let her wait outside for HOURS, and as soon as we’re about to open, we get security to inform her she’s not allowed in and to please leave. When asked why, I step in to tell her that we can’t trust her not to pee on the floor. I say this loudly in front of everyone else in the line.
She storms off shouting, and for the first time ever, I had a smile on my face on a Black Friday…
