Secure Down To The Letter
The name has been changed and simplified but the story is the same:
Me: “Can I take your name, please?”
Caller: “It’s E, I, A, E, H.”
Me: “Your name is spelled E, I, A, E, H? Nothing is coming up.”
Caller: “Well, I gave you every other letter in my name. I don’t want to spell the whole thing in case you steal my name.”
A lot to unpack there…
Me: “No one is going to… steal your name, ma’am. But I do need your name to look up the account.”
Caller: “Well whenever I give other details over the phone, they only need the last four digits or some s*** like that.”
Me: “Oh, yes I understand. At [Bank], however, we need the other… uh, every other letter in your name.”
Caller: “In that case it’s L, Z, B, T.”
I was able to help Elizabeth with her account query after that.
