Scored Higher Than Naught

(My best friend and I are in the same English class, and are texting before school about an essay we’ll have to write in said class as part of an exam. Note that I was absent the day the class was told about the essay, so am less prepared.)

Me: “I’m really nervous about this; I wish I’d had time to prepare more.”

Best Friend: “Relax. You love to write, so this shouldn’t be that bad.”

Me: “I enjoy writing, but that has naught to do with whatever skill I will need.”

Best Friend: “…You just used naught correctly in a sentence.”

Me: “Point taken.”

(And, yes, I did well.)
