Schedule To Work Isn’t Working

| Working | March 27, 2016

(I work for a temp agency for a few weeks before one of the companies asks for me to come back the next day. I work for them for a bit through the temp agency until they ask me to apply to work there full time. A couple weeks after I’ve been officially hired the following occurs.)

Me: *checking the schedule and realizing I’m not actually on it yet, I comment jokingly* “I guess I’m not scheduled to work this week.”

Boss: “What?”

Me: “Yeah, I’m not on the schedule.”

Boss: “Really?” *checks schedule*

(We both laugh it off. Two months later I realize I’m still not on the schedule — not a problem, as our hours are very regular and I’ve been coming in anyway. We are in a team meeting:

Boss: “[New Team Member] is new and they’ll be working in [area]. We’ll get you on the schedule next week.”

Me: “Will I be on the schedule next week, too?” *laughing a bit*

Boss: “Wait, you’re still not on the schedule?”

Supervisor: “There are two pages. Did you check the second one?”

Me: “My last name is almost at the end of the alphabet so I always check at the end of the list first.”

(The supervisor checks both pages then goes silent.)

Boss: “Well, thank you for coming in anyway.”

(Everyone laughs.)
