Savor The Favor
(I am on the train on the way home from work, and getting hungry. Instead of waiting until I get home, I message my housemate to ask them to put some food in the oven for me.)
Me: “Could you do me a favour?”
Housemate: “Depends.”
Me: “Just cooking dinner. It should be easy, and you can have some.”
Housemate: “I just ate at [popular Japanese restaurant]. What do you need?”
Me: “The schnitzels in the bottom shelf of the bar freezer in the oven.”
Housemate: “They are not mine.”
Me: “They are mine.”
Housemate: “I am lost.”
Me: “You said they weren’t yours?”
Housemate: “They are [Other Housemates]’s?”
Me: “No, they are mine.”
Housemate: “I’m lost.”
Me: “The schnitzels belong to me. I own the schnitzels. They are mine.”
Housemate: “Then what is the favour?”
Me: “Put them in the oven and turn the oven on so I can eat as soon as I get home instead of having to wait.”
Housemate: “I’m in the city. Ask [Other Housemate].”
Me: *by this point frustrated having gone through that entire conversation* “…okay.”
(It wasn’t all bad. The other housemate was home, and they put the oven on for me. Plus I got a lift home from the first housemate!)
