Requires A Double Take

(We are at a baby shower for a cousin on my husband’s side. We are up for the week visiting his family, with all three of our kids: our three-year-old son, and our twin girls who are just one. While my girls are twins, they look nothing alike; one is blond, and the other is brunette. I am talking with my husband’s elderly aunt.)

Aunt: “Your girls are so cute!

Me: “Thank you.”

Aunt: “How old are they?”

Me: “They just turned one.”

Aunt: “Both of them? Are they twins?”

Me: “Yes, both. They are twins.”

Aunt: “Are you sure they are twins? They look so different from each other!”

Me: “Yes, I am sure they are twins. I was there when they were born!”
