Remembering Is Its Own Reward

(I am the culprit in this story. It is required for us to ask customers if they have a rewards card while ringing them up.)

Me: “Do you have a rewards card with us?”

Customer: “I do!”

(Surprisingly the customer has their card with them. Usually I have to look it up by their phone number. I scan their card and then start to scan and bag all their items.)

Me: “Okay. Do you have a rewards card…”

(The customer and I stare at each other for a moment before the customer starts laughing.)

Me: “Oh, my god, I’m sorry. I have to ask that about 5,000 times a day. Sometimes I forget who I have asked already!”
