Refunder Blunder, Part 77
A customer comes in and buys $500 worth of baby back ribs and pork spare ribs. They use a combination of food cards, EBT, food credit, and a food stamp card. He then turns around and says:
Customer: “I made a mistake, I can’t eat this; it’s all pork and it’s against his religion. I want my money back.”
I call my manager over, who agrees to return the money to the cards as he hasn’t left the checkout lane yet.
Customer: “No. I want cash.”
Manager: “That’s illegal. The refund has to go back to the original payment method.”
Customer: “So you’re oppressing me because of my religion?”
Manager: “No, I’m oppressing you because you’re a lying scammer who thought they’d found a loophole.”
Customer: “I’m going to call the police to report a hate crime!”
Manager: “Since what you’re asking me to do is illegal, please do!”
The customer’s bluff being called out, he resorts to demanding cash again.
Manager: “Not only am I not refunding this cash, unless you choose to process the refund right f****** now, I won’t refund you at all. All of these are refrigerated items, and they need to be put back now.”
The customer begrudgingly accepted the refund to the original cards and my manager banned him after he put back all the meat.
