Refunder Blunder, Part 5

| Working | November 21, 2016

(I have purchased an item online, to be shipped to my PO Box by international shipping. I have a disability and can’t talk, so I don’t have a phone as I do everything by email or relay calls. When I provided my address to the seller, they didn’t ask for a phone number or say they can’t ship to PO Boxes. The following is by email.)

Store: “Hi, we need a phone number to send your item.”

Me: “Hi! I’m not sure what you’re asking, but I don’t have a phone, so I can’t give you a number. Customs are okay with an email address in that field.” *links to customs page which explains the regulations for filling out the address form*

Store: “I asked you for your phone number. We can’t fill out the label online without one so we can’t send your item unless you give it to us.”

Me: “I don’t have a phone, and you didn’t say I needed to provide a number for shipping, so may I please have a refund? If I had known I would not have ordered since I can’t give you a phone number I don’t have.”

Store: “We can’t give you a refund as we can’t send to you because you’re not cooperating with us to give necessary shipping information.”

Me: “You’re refusing to send to me because you can’t go to a post office and fill in a form by hand, since all customs need is an alternate contact in case there’s an issue, which can be an email or a phone number. You’re asking me to assist you in providing false information to customs, which is a federal offence. I would like a full refund, please.”

Store: “We can’t give you a refund as we can’t send to you because you’re not cooperating with us to give necessary shipping information. I don’t understand what’s so hard about that. If you really don’t have a phone you can just give us someone else’s phone number to put in the box so we can generate a label in our software.”

(I lodged a dispute with their payment portal and forwarded all the emails… Two days later…)

Store: “We actually rang them and they told us to give you a full refund. But it was your fault for not having a verified address with a phone number. God bless you and we’re sorry we had this experience with you.”

(I got my refund, eventually.)
