Reaching Breaking Point
(I work in a mall as an assistant manager in a retail store that deals exclusively in candles, home fragrance, and home decor. At my store we wear red aprons as part of our dress code. While on break, I decide to browse another retail store who also happen to wear aprons and because it is during the holiday season they are also red. Note: I’m wearing a scarf which somewhat obstructs the view of the name of my store on my apron.)
Customer: *approaches me while holding containers of body wash and perfume in his hands* “What was sale on these, again?”
Me: “Oh, I’m sorry. I don’t work here!”
Customer: “But you’re wearing a red apron.”
Me: “Yes… but I work at [Store].”
Customer: “Then you need to either hide it, or take your apron off.”
Me: *sort of chuckling as I assume he is kidding*
Customer: “I’m not kidding.”
(I just stood there kind of slack jawed at this guy’s audacity. He ended up walking away but my employees and I now make a point to take our aprons off when we go on break!)
