Pulling the Wool Over Their Eyes

It’s family movie night, and we’ve just streamed “The Sheep Detectives”. Overall, I thought it was a cute, cosy English village countryside murder mystery, but my parents disagree.

Mom: “Well, that was stupid!”

Me: “It’s a family-friendly PG movie, so the kids are supposed to be able to follow along.”

Mom: “No, it’s just that the innkeeper was Asian!”

Me: “Uh… okay?”

Dad: “Yeah! Like there’d be an Asian innkeeper in a little English village! That’s just DEI and unrealistic!”

Me: “So the talking sheep who were able to solve the murder were totally reasonable, but you draw the line at an Asian innkeeper in England!?”

Mom: “It’s just not realistic!”

My sister joined in with me in mocking them. They left the room when she asked if they thought the black sheep was also a DEI hire…
