Promoted Yourself One Year Up

(I am 24 and live away from my parents. Every Thursday we go out to get Mexican food together. Right now they are talking as if the coming Thursday is special.)

Mom: “Maybe we can invite your uncle to come to dinner.”

Dad: “And we can go to a movie afterwards! Is there a movie you want to go see?”

Mom: “Do you think that [Boyfriend] would be able to come down for dinner Thursday?”

Me: “Probably not, seeing as he has class the next day. What’s the big deal with Thursday, anyway? Someone get a promotion?”

(Both of my parents stare at me open-mouthed.)

Mom: “Thursday is your birthday.”

Me: “Oh… right…”
