Pride Comes Before Pride & Prejudice

| Romantic | February 16, 2013

(My sister and I are big fans of Jane Austen, and often get into debates with our dad about the merits of her work. We’re trying to explain why he should try reading ‘Pride and Prejudice’.)

Dad: “I know it’s a classic, but why should I bother? Look, can you sum up in one sentence why this is supposed to be such a great love story?”

Sister: *pause* “At the end of the story, these two don’t just fall in love, they both become a person for having known the other.”

Dad: “Hey, that’s great! I don’t have to read it now!”

Me: “Wait, what do you mean?”

Dad: “Well, that’s just the story of your mom and me!”
