Pretty Sure The Nazis Weren’t About Saving Lives

A few years ago, I wanted to attend a Major League Baseball game with my husband and a few of his coworkers. This was during the time when there were no mask mandates but you did have to provide proof of vaccine or take a nasal swab test on site and have it come back negative.

A coworker – a man from Germany – is not vaccinated and has no plans to do so. While everyone else is pulling up their vaccination records, he is standing with security, arms crossed over his chest. Both security guards look like they’ve had a long, difficult day.

Coworker: “This is illegal. You understand that, right?”

Security #1: “Sir, this is not illegal. It is for the safety of—”

Coworker: “Yeah, yeah, the safety of everyone around you. From a f****** cold.”

Security #2: “Sir, neither of us is going to play this game with you. If you aren’t vaccinated and refuse to be tested at our health facility, you can’t come in. That’s it.”

Coworker: “Then you can refund my ticket and cover my gas money to get here.”

Security #1: “No. This requirement is in the terms and conditions of purchasing your ticket.”

Coworker: “This is discrimination. You’re basically Nazis.”

Security #2: *In disbelief.* “What?”

Coworker: *Clicks his heels and thrusts his hand forward.*

Security #2: “Okay, you can leave. Get out.”

Coworker: “I’m just—”

Security #2: “We can escort you nicely or we can escort you forcefully.”

Coworker: “No. I’ll take the test. You can’t make me leave.”

Security #1: “Too late. Leave.”

Coworker: “I said I would take it!”

Security #1: “You also called us Nazis. It’s time to go.”

He was escorted out in a less-than-friendly way. According to my husband, [Coworker] spent weeks bashing the baseball game.
