A Heartfelt Gesture
(Our cat has gone into congestive heart failure. Her treatment is far from cheap, but my partner covers the whole thing, and after a nerve-wracking couple of days she is released from the hospital in pretty good shape on February 14. Once home, my partner and I collapse together, exhausted.)
Partner: “What a week. I’m afraid I didn’t do anything romantic for today.”
Me: “Are you kidding? This is the most romantic present of all! An actual still-working heart, encased in purring kitty. And the vets say she should have several good years left. Best Valentine’s Day gift ever! I love you!”
Partner: “Huh, I guess I did something romantic after all.”
