Please Take Interest In My Lack Of Interest
I don’t live in Washington state, but I’ve been getting a lot of scam/spam calls that have a Washington name or number. Unfortunately, I’m potentially waiting for a call from Washington, but don’t know what number(s) will be calling. (A friend/former coworker is job-hunting and using me as a reference.) So, anytime a Washington number comes up, I try to answer just in case.
One time, I get a call, and as my friend has given me a heads-up that a job is calling their references, I answer it.
Me: “Hello?”
Rep: “Hello, is this [My Name]?”
Me: “Who’s calling?”
Rep: “Miss [My Name], I’m calling from [Random Lending Agency that I know isn’t Washington-based], and I see that we’ve sent out a second notice that you’re pre-qualified for a personal loan.”
I regret answering.
Me: “I’m not interested. Please take me off your list.”
Rep: “Well, Miss [My Name], if you’ve been paying off high-interest debt consistently, you could—”
Me: *Cutting him off* “I’m sorry, but wouldn’t you think that if I was interested, I’d have responded to your notice? I’m not interested. Please take me off your list.”
Rep: “Miss [My Name], how much debt do you have? I see here that you can qualify for an additional—”
Me: *Cutting him off once more* “Look. I’m. Not. Interested. Please take me off your list.”
Then, I hung up on him. I was probably a little ruder than I should have been, but the fact that he seemed to be ignoring my “take me off your list” requests pissed me off.
I ended up telling my friend to ask anyone calling to leave a voicemail so I can call back because I’m tired of answering these stupid spam calls.
