People From The Netherlands Never Land

(We (boyfriend and I) are on vacation in Scotland (we’re Dutch) and rent a boat to cruise Loch Lomond. Halfway through the wind picks up, the waves get higher, and suddenly we realize all the locals have cleared the lake. We’re the only ones on the water, and my boyfriend is struggling to keep the boat steady in the heavy waves. This is the first time he has ever handled a boat. A little later the weather settles down and we make it back to the dock safely, where we are greeted by the boat rental guy.)

Boat Rental Guy: “I was already wondering where you’ve been! The waters weren’t particularly safe just now. You tied up somewhere or something?”

Boyfriend: “Yeah, we noticed. No, we just kept on sailing, actually.”

Boat Rental Guy: *shocked* “Wait, you mean to tell me you sailed through THAT wind?”

Me: “Eh… yeah? We’re Dutch.”

Boat Rental Guy: *nods* “Fair enough.”
