Paperwork Not Working
A customer is calling the bank to go over some transactions that flagged the fraud department. After clearing it all up, at the end of the call, she asks us about the credit card provided by the bank.
Me: “You can apply for the credit card in the branch, ma’am.”
This is before the Internet was ubiquitous, and definitely before smartphones.
Caller: “Ugh, can’t you do it for me?”
Me: “No, ma’am, you need to come in and fill out a form. Luckily, I work in your local branch so I can make an appointment for you to go through the form and complete the application together.”
Caller: “Okay, fine, let’s do that.”
We come up with a date and time, and all is well. The day and time come, and pass. I call her:
Me: “Ma’am, I’ve been waiting for you for twenty minutes. We had an appointment.”
Customer: “Well, then do it! What are you bothering me for?!”
Me: “We made an appointment for you to be here to go through the application.”
Customer: “So then go through it!”
Me: “Without you, I can’t. You need to provide information, sign it, among other things.”
Customer: “I didn’t know that if I made an appointment, I had to come!”
Me: “Ma’am, forgive me for asking, but what did you think the appointment was for?”
Customer: “For appointing someone to do it for me! I don’t want to be there to do it! It’s boring, and I’m going to play golf!”
