Pair Pressure

I work as a cashier at a superstore where all employees wear blue vests. A mom and her two young children came through my line. The daughter is maybe four or five years old, and her son is three, if I had to guess.

Mom is buying some Spiderman shoes for her son, and since he is wearing them and they are sold outside of a box, she takes the shoe with the UPC barcode off and puts it on my belt. I scanned it and handed it back since common sense and ten years of experience told me what was happening, but as the mom goes to pay her daughter pipes up loudly:

Young Daughter: “Mom, you didn’t scan his other shoe.”

I began laughing and left it to the mom to explain how she didn’t have to buy each shoe individually, but it made my day.
