One Good Wedding Deserves Another

(My girlfriend & I have been dating for almost four years. We’ve never talked about getting married. We have just got on the road for a five hour late night drive back home to our college town after attending her best friend’s wedding.)

Girlfriend: “That was a really nice wedding.”

Me: “Yeah, and it was at a good time of the year to have a wedding.”

Girlfriend: “Maybe we should get married this time next year.”

Me: “That’s a good idea.”

Girlfriend: “So, that would be a year from today, then.”

Me: “Sounds good to me.”

(There is a pause in our conversation, as we realize what we have just done.)

Me: “So that was a proposal?”

Girlfriend: “Sounds like it to me.”

(We did get married a year later, and have been now for over 25 years!)
