(We live in a Washington State town close to the Oregon border. Thus, we often hop over to Oregon for shopping or entertainment purposes. My sister is 15 years old.)
Sister: “I mean, my vacations are so boring! Did you know I have never even been out of the state?”
Me: “We’re in Portland right now.”
Sister: “Yeah, so?”
Me: “Portland is in Oregon.”
Sister: “Wait, really!?”
Me: *I point across the river* “Washington is over there.”
(After her initial shock, she was actually fairly happy that she had visited a different state. On multiple occasions!)
