Obama Drama, Part 10
This is during the early days of Obama’s presidency, when the “birther conspiracy” is rampant, claiming that Obama couldn’t be president because he was born outside of the United States.
As we’re a small store in a rural town, some customers like to stop and make small talk.
Customer: “Did you hear that Obama is an immigrant?”
Me: “That’s not true. That’s just some conspiracy theory.”
Customer: “No, I saw it on the news, but they keep saying he’s from Africa. But that’s not true either.”
Me: “He’s from Hawaii—”
Customer: “—yeah, Obama’s not even actually African. He’s Kenyan!”
Me: “…which is in Africa.”
Customer: “No! It’s one of those terrorist countries! I saw it on—”
Me: “—the news, got it.”
