Now THAT’S What I Call An Express Checkout!
It’s New Year’s Eve, so the store is quite busy as a lot of people seem to be stocking up for parties. I am one such disorganized person, in line at the checkouts.
I approach the cashier, who starts scanning my stuff, but then points at a wallet on the counter.
Cashier: “Is that yours?”
Me: “No.”
Cashier: “Oh no. That must be from my last customer. Do you mind?”
By “do you mind,” I think the cashier is asking if I don’t mind chasing the previous customer down, so I start saying:
Me: “No, I don’t min—”
Cashier: “—thank you!”
Immediately, the cashier grabs the wallet and sprints toward the exit, shouting:
Cashier: “Sir! Wait! WAAAAAAIT! YOU ARE NOT STARTING THE NEW YEAR BY CANCELLING YOUR CARDS!”
From what I could see from my distance, the customer was shocked, then grateful. The cashier ran back, now panting, and continued to scan my items, a little out of breath.
Me: “Are you okay?”
Cashier: “Great! Maybe keep an eye on your wallet, though. I think I only have one of those in me today…”
