Not Strictly Professional

| Working | September 24, 2014

(My boss is a very strict, very passionate leader. All week he has been complaining and trying to get us to work harder, talk less, and understand the expectations of the company. It is Friday morning.)

Boss: *on phone* “Yeah, hi, [My Name]. Just so you know, I’m not coming in today.”

Me: “Er, okay. What should i say if I’m asked.”

Boss: “I don’t know. Make something up. Speak to you later.” *click*

(All day, no phone calls or emails, until two hours before home time.)

Boss: *on phone* “Hi, [My Name]. What time are you finishing?”

Me: “Normal time. Why?”

Boss: “Leave early. I need you to drop my charger off to me.”

Me: “I’m a little busy today. I—”

Boss: No, it’s fine. Just leave it until Monday. Okay, see you then.

(I do what he asks anyway. I begin to wonder what is wrong. Is he ill? Something embarrassing? Maybe he is working from home or looking for another job? I drive home and meet him.)

Boss: “Thanks for this. I just couldn’t be bothered to come in today. Spent the morning shopping. Okay, catch you Monday. Don’t be late! Lots to do!”
