Not ‘Puh’-lite Enough For Ice Cream
(A friend has invited us to a small gathering with a few church family and friends to celebrate her 18th. I’m getting ice cream and a friend’s three-year-old comes up to me.)
Son: “Can I have some ice cream?”
Me: “Sure, but what do you say when you ask?”
Son: “Can I have some ice cream?”
Me: “No, what word?”
Son: “Ice cream…”
Me: “Starts with a ‘puh’ sound.”
Son: “Can you get me some ice cream?”
(This goes on for a minute, including asking his listening mother to come and get it. Finally he walks up to my brother-in-law and convinces him to go over and asks him instead.)
Son: “Can you PLEASE get me some ice cream?”
