Not How You Want To Make Your Mark
Customer: “I want a caramel macchiato.”
Me: “Right on.”
Customer: “Can I get extra macchiato in that macchiato?”
A traditional caffè macchiato is an espresso “stained” with a small splash of milk or milk foam. Macchiato is “stained” in Italian. It’s meant to be enough to visibly stain or mark the dark coffee, rather than turn it into a milky drink.
So, I looked at him and asked:
Me: “You want me to extra mark the foam?”
Customer: *Blinks.* “What even is a macchiato anyway?”
I don’t expect knowing what a macchiato is to be common knowledge, but if you’re ordering it, I do!
