Not A (Card) Reader

, , , , | Right | August 27, 2018

(Our credit card machines have a spot for the new chip reader but it is not set up yet. We begin to get annoyed, constantly telling customers to slide their cards, so we take an empty gift card, wrap it in paper, write, “no chip,” and insert it in the spot. We think people will understand the message.)

Me: “Okay, your total is [total].”

Customer: *gesturing towards the ‘no chip’ sign* “Can I take this out? It’s blocking the chip reader.”

Me: *stares in disbelief*

Customer: “What does ‘no chip’ even mean?”

Me: “You’ll just need to slide your card, ma’am.”
