Needs To Spin(ach) That Around Again
(I am a very picky eater, and I also have a couple of very unusual food allergies. My roommate loves to cook, and is trying to think of something he can make that I’ll also eat.)
Me: “I mean, I’ll try whatever, as long as I’m not allergic to it, and if I don’t like it, that just means more leftovers for you and [Roommate #2].”
Roommate: “What are you allergic to?”
Me: “Bananas and spinach.”
Roommate: “Spinach?”
Me: “Yeah, it’s a shame because I really loved spinach when I was younger. Then I didn’t eat it for a few years and the last time I tried it my throat swelled up and I almost choked.”
Roommate: “Wow, that’s serious.”
Me: “Yeah.”
Roommate: “That’s too bad. I make a really good spinach salad. I use cherry tomatoes, and almonds – no, walnuts, and a homemade dressing. Does that sound good?”
Me: “Yeah, it sounds delicious.”
Roommate: *getting excited* “Would you eat that?”
Me: “No… I’m allergic to spinach.”
Roommate: “Oh, right.”
