Needs To Audit Your Assumptions

(I work in an office at a manufacturing facility and my desk is near the door of the machine shop manager. One day an auditor is brought in by an offsite employee (both males), who storms into my office, looks at me (the only female), and says the following:)

Offsite Employee: “Where’s [Machine Shop Manager]? Tell him we are auditing in the paint shop and we need him out there! You need to page him!”

(They then hurriedly swoop out the door before I can even formulate a response.)

Coworker: *who sits beside me* “What the HECK was THAT?”

(I’m an engineer with TWO Master’s degrees and the offsite employee just assumed I was the secretary when he saw a female.)
