Must Be A Devilishly Good Lunch

, , , , , | Right | October 31, 2018

Back in high school, our school cafeteria was woefully inadequate for the number of students, so we had open lunch. We could eat wherever we wanted, even leaving school, as long as we were back in time for the next class.

A grocery store a block down the street knew this, and set out a bunch of cheap lunch items every weekday. One day I bought lunch for a friend, and noticed a fun little coincidence.

Shortly after Halloween, I still had some costume stuff out, so we brought in a pair of floor-length black robes with hoods, and bought two fried chicken sandwiches and two donuts. We both stood in silence, making direct eye contact with the cashier as I pulled out a small plastic bag containing exact change: six dollars, six dimes, and six pennies.
