Multiple Brain Freezes

, , , , | Right | December 9, 2025

I’m working a shift at the ice cream shop, and suddenly all the front freezers, the giant coffin-style cases where we keep every tub, just die. We slam the door shut and put up a giant sign:

Sign: “CLOSED: POWER FAILURE.”

We’re frantically hauling tubs of rapidly melting ice cream to the storage freezers in the back, trying to save as much product as we can.

And then it begins:

Knock knock knock.

I go to the door.

Customer #1: “Hey! I only want a cone. You can still do a cone, right?”

Me: “Our freezers are down. We’re closed for the rest of the day.”

Customer #1: “It won’t take long; I just want one scoop.”

I walk away mid-sentence. There’s no time to debate.

Knock knock knock.

Customer #2 shows up, louder this time.

Customer #2: “Helloooo? The door’s locked. I need a milkshake!”

Me: “We’re closed. The freezers failed.”

Customer #2: “Is the ice cream soft?”

Me: “It’s getting there!”

Customer #2: “Great! That makes milkshakes faster!”

I stare at them through the glass until they finally back away. I’m about to get back to it, when…

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.

Customer #3: “So… if everything is melting, I can get a discount, right?”

Me: “No.”

Customer #3: “But it’s already kinda ruined, so—”

Me: “No! We are literally trying to save thousands of dollars of product.”

Customer #3: “Okay, but like… would you do half off?”

I slowly walk away from the door without breaking eye contact.

Customer #3: *Through the door.* “So… no?”
