I sold lawnmowers at [Department Store Chain].
Customer: “Do you have any [Lawnmower]s from the ad in stock?”
Me: “I’m sorry, but we’re sold out. We can order one if you want.”
Customer: “You know, there’s a law that you have to have five of an item in stock at all times if it’s in the ad.”
Me: “Okay, we do have five in stock.”
Customer: “Good, I’ll take one.”
Me: “Okay. We’ll order it and deliver it on Wednesday.”
Customer: “But you just said you have five in stock!”
Me: “Yeah, but there’s a law that says I have to have five in stock at all times; if I sold you one of those, I’d be violating the law, so we have to ship you one.”
He was not happy.
